Frommer's Review
Transformed into a hotel in 1822, the Hotel Luna Convento occupies Amalfi's watchtower dating from 1564, and the ancient Franciscan monastery founded by Saint Francis in 1222, complete with its beautiful original cloister and church. Just 273m (896 ft.) from the town's center, on the promontory protecting Amalfi's harbor, this family-run place counts Henrik Ibsen (who wrote A Doll's House here in 1879) among its famous guests. The space remains as artistically inspiring as ever: The hotel is surrounded by a garden, with sun terraces and a large seawater swimming pool carved out of the cliff. There is also a private, rather rocky beach and a highly praised gourmet restaurant where you have to make reservations long in advance. The watchtower houses a disco and piano bar, as well as another restaurant with fantastic views. Guest rooms vary in size and decor, but all are bright and spacious, with sweeping vistas, commodious tiled bathrooms, and sometimes private terraces.
Facilities:
2 restaurants; bar; babysitting; concierge; laundry service; outdoor pool; room service

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
