Sadie Thompson Inn ReviewThis historic wooden structure was a rooming house when W. Somerset Maugham stayed here in the 1920s, and it provided the setting for his famous short story "Rain." Present-day owners Tom and Ta'aloga Drabble have turned it into this comfortable inn. Each named for a character in "Rain," the units are upstairs over Sadie's Restaurant and Bar. The best for my money is a suite at the front with a view of the harbor and Rainmaker Mountain. One of the suites has a separate bedroom, and two have large bathrooms with whirlpool tubs and showers. Most of the eight standard rooms are on the back of the building, but two others open to an open-air passageway with harbor view.
