When in Amsterdam, having a strategy can take you only so far. This is a hang-loose city, and objectives-based planning works against the city's very nature. Yet having no strategy leaves you to the whims and vagaries of chance and there's no guarantee that all your surprises will be pleasant ones. What's useful is a general plan for allocating your time while leaving time for serendipity to work its magic.
