Religion has always been an important part of Amsterdam's history; hundreds of churches are testimony to the great variety of religious beliefs still alive -- if not always thriving -- in the city. Most can be visited during regular services; some have open doors during weekdays so that visitors may have a look.
The Biblical Museum, the Jewish Historical Museum, and the secret church Our Lord in the Attic are covered in the "Museums" section. For another secret church, in a building called De Rode Hoed, and for the city's medieval Begijnhof, look under "Historical Buildings & Monuments".
