Frommer's Review
The name of Japan's main port city is an appropriate one for this authentic but somewhat stiff and quite expensive restaurant on the 12th floor of the 13-story Havengebouw, overlooking Amsterdam harbor. Amsterdam doesn't have many tall buildings, so this one offers a grand view for dinner. Only the section where traditional Japanese food is served has the water view; those who go for teppanyaki ("Europeanized" Japanese food) only get a view of Centraal Station and its rail-line network. But no matter where you sit, the food's worth it. This is one of the Japanese restaurants that have borrowed the Indonesian rijsttafel concept -- order one (menus are named after various Japanese cities), and you get a little of this, a little of that. Otherwise, the menu is standard Japanese, with sushi among extensive seafood listings. In the teppanyaki section, chefs are fast on the draw with knives and salt and pepper shakers.
