In the vaulted basement of a monumental, late-19th-century villa on Vondelpark's edge, this tree-shaded, animated cafe-restaurant shares premises with the Film Instituut Nederland and its EYE film theater, which is due to move to Amsterdam-Noord (North) at the end of 2011. Hence the portraits of screen legends on the walls and the classic scenes of movie dining on the menu. On summer days, the terrace is a favored time-out spot for in-line skaters and joggers, and you can expect to share your table and make the instant acquaintance of just about everyone within earshot. On summer evenings, you might even be able to take in an open-air movie. At other times, enjoy the south-Europe cuisine in an intimate indoor candlelit setting. The menu, which changes every 6 to 8 weeks, lists fish, meat, and vegetarian options, plus some fresh pasta varieties.
