Budget Hotel Clemens Amsterdam ReviewA 2-minute walk from the Anne Frankhuis, this friendly, recently refurbished and modernized hotel spreads over four floors in one of those typical steep-staired Dutch buildings, with the reception and breakfast room up one flight of stairs. There's no elevator. Both the fairly spacious "deluxe" rooms (which have bathrooms) and the fairly tight budget rooms (which are without bathrooms) are kept in good trim. All are bright, clean, and homely rather than stylish. Nos. 7 and 8 each have a balcony facing the Westerkerk. Three rooms are triples. There are a few laptops available to rent at reception for guests who haven't lugged their own along. Raadhuisstraat is a busy street during the day, though generally not so at night; keep this in mind if any amount of noise is a deal-breaker for you. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
