Frommer's Review
On a stretch of prime riverside real estate, this elegant old establishment, located where the Amstel River flows into the city's canal network, is an iconic element in the classic city skyline. Built in 1896, it has a grand style and a sense of ease behind its pale-red and white facade, a smooth combination of aged dignity and modern comfort. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious, bright, and furnished with classic good taste. Some rooms have small balconies overlooking the river; all rooms boast marble bathrooms. The Excelsior, one of Amsterdam's toniest restaurants, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Le Relais is a less formal setting for a light lunch or dinner. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres are served daily in Freddy's Bar and in summer only (weather permitting) on La Terrasse, overlooking the Amstel, from 11am to 1am.
Facilities:
2 restaurants (French, Continental); 2 bars; heated indoor pool; health club; sauna; concierge; 24-hr. room service; massage; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms
