Frommer's Review

Though it's not on one of the major canals, Acacia is in the Jordaan and faces a small canal just a block from Prinsengracht. Hans and Marlene van Vliet run this pie-slice-shaped hotel; they're a friendly couple who have worked hard to make their hotel welcoming and clean, and they're justifiably proud of the result. The simple, well kept, and comfortable rooms, all of which have canal views, were recently equipped with new beds, writing tables, and chairs. The large front-corner rooms sleep as many as five and have windows on three sides. A couple of studios have tiny kitchenettes. Breakfast (of cold cuts, cheese, a boiled egg, and a choice of coffee or tea) is served in a cozy Old Dutch room with windows on two sides and a nice canal view -- it's a lovely way to start the morning. Two houseboats available for guests on nearby Lijnbaansgracht add an authentic local touch. In the hotel proper, there's no elevator.
