If small but chic and reasonably priced describes the sort of hotel you prefer, you'll be pleased at the Owl, in the pleasant residential area around Vondelpark, behind the Marriott. One of Amsterdam's best values, the Owl has been owned by the same family since 1972 and is bright, tidy, and well kept. Rooms aren't very big, but they're not cramped either, and they've all been recently renovated. Bathrooms are tiled floor to ceiling, and there's a pleasant lounge bar overlooking a small garden.
