Straw Hat

The island's only restaurant built not just near, not just by, but over the sea, the Straw Hat has a panoramic setting and vistas across to French St. Martin. Perched on wooden pilings driven deep into the sea bed, this place is about as pretty a spot as you'll find. We've had great meals here and some not-so-great ones. Some dishes, like the jerk pork tenderloin and curried goat, are traditional island favorites; others are more eclectic, like the seared Anguillian red snapper with a lime, ginger, and saffron sauce or the pan-roasted duck breast with passionfruit demi-glace. The garlic-mashed potatoes are terrific. A cilantro, lime, and pecan pesto pasta can be served with your choice of grilled chicken, tuna, or red snapper. For dessert, order the chocolate lava cake with lavender crème Anglaise or ginger crème brûlée.
