Decisions, decisions: How to chose between Cap Juluca and Malliouhana? Well, if you want to walk out your door and saunter across the beach into the water, head for Cap Juluca. If you want to relax in an understated-chic room or villa tucked into the lush gardens of a cliffside resort overlooking the sea, and meander down a path to the beach, Malliouhana is the place for you. Situated on a rocky bluff between two crescent beaches, Malliouhana's 10 hectares (25 acres) are lushly landscaped with terraces, banks of flowers, pools, tiled walkways, and fountains. All rooms have either sea or garden views -- sometimes both. As for the Michel Rostang at Malliouhana restaurant, it garnered the top spot on Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List in 2008 as the best hotel for food in the Caribbean. The 15,000-square-foot full-service spa is highly professional and popular with repeat clients from the local and expat communities here, as well as Malliouhana's own guests. Many of the spacious, casually elegant rooms have four-poster beds; a number have their own verandas and mini-gardens. If you're traveling with a child, this is a kid-friendly oasis, complete with a terrific supervised playground with a faux pirate ship; nonguests can use the playground for $25 per person per day.
