Frommer's Review
Unlike Anguilla's resorts that hide themselves away in acres of landscaped privacy, Kú is in the heart of things at very popular Shoal Bay. Kú opened in 2005 after completely renovating the nondescript five-building condo complex that had been here since the 1980s. The result: an easy barefoot back-and-forth walk from the island's most famous beach to good-value quarters on stratospherically priced Anguilla. Each suite has a living/dining room with a full kitchen, good-size bedroom and bathroom, and an oceanfront terrace or ocean-view balcony. The suites are decorated in a minimalist style, with lots of bright white offset by colorful throw cushions; glass, chrome, and wicker tables and chairs; and pale pastel walls. Some reports indicate the rooms are in need of a little refreshment. Kú's 23m-long (75-ft.) beach bar and pool is a daylong gathering place for guests, who range in age from thirty-something to long-standing AARP members. Uncle Ernie's, one of Anguilla's best-known beach bars and grills, is just next door, as is the Shoal Bay Scuba Center. Other restaurants and bars are strung out for a good mile or so along the beach, which is increasingly chock-a-block with rental umbrellas, beach chairs, and day-trippers from St. Martin. In short, Shoal Bay is Anguilla's only seriously crowded beach and Kú is a great place for action and nonstop people watching -- but not necessarily for blissed-out Caribbean tranquility.
