Meads Bay is bookended by two high-end resorts, the Viceroy and the Malliouhana. Thank goodness for solid midpriced lodgings like this one, which enjoys the same sumptuous stretch of sand as the big boys. All that surrounding poshness tends the keep the neighbors on their toes, and this salmon-tinged Spanish Mediterranean–style resort maintains and upgrades its facilities on a regular basis. Frangipani offers doubles (with twin beds or a king) and a range of suites in one-, two-, and three-bedroom and penthouse configurations. Doubles and junior suites run on the small side; if space is an issue I recommend the one-bedroom suites, with smart, spacious layouts, designer kitchens, and ocean views.

In fact, all suites have full kitchens and washer/dryers—a boon for families and groups. The best deals are the luxury "no view" rooms, still only steps from the sand. All rooms are furnished quite comfortably with premium bedding, rattan furniture, and tile floors. Two more draws at Frangipani: a seaside infinity pool and the popular Straw Hat restaurant, where you can dine on a deck overlooking Meads Bay.
