Frommer's Review
This is some of the best Asian food I've ever eaten -- and I've tasted fusion foods from as far and wide as New York, Paris, London, Bali, and Manila. Located about 1.6km (1 mile) down Konyaalti Caddesi, China Garden is hidden inside the park, down a steep hill that eventually brings you to one of those familiar, bright-red cheesy Oriental gates. A boardwalk leads down to a large and elegant dining room, thankfully devoid of plastic lanterns. The terrace sits atop a steep cliff overlooking the sea; as night falls and the glowing lanterns loosen your tensions, you can ponder the Romeo and Juliet-like stories of lovers leaping over the cliff walls.
Each entree is tastefully illustrated by a photograph on the menu. No MSG is used here. Don't pass up the appetizer of crispy prawn crackers, which arrive on a hot iron plate with a flavorful chile sauce dip. Other favorites include the shark-fin and crabmeat soup and the delectable crispy roast duck. Save room for the ice cream.
Although with plenty of good options closer to home, China Garden may seem a bit out of the way, but it's absolutely worth the trip, and it's close enough to Kaleiçi that you can walk off the meal.
