Frommer's Review

This resort offers large and luxurious rooms with great views of the volcano, although you're a little farther away from the action here than you are at the hotels closer to Tabacón and La Fortuna. The rooms are housed in a series of two-story buildings set on a hillside facing the volcano, and are quite spacious, with either one king or two twin beds on bamboo frames, attractive handmade wooden furniture, and interesting decorative touches. All feature a wall of glass letting out on a private balcony or porch, which in itself lets out onto the view. The suites are even larger and feature a Jacuzzi tub on the porch or balcony. Just below the open-air restaurant are a pretty two-tiered swimming pool and poolside bar. You can also reserve one of several villas, which are in effect two-bedroom suites, with a full kitchenette and an extra-long balcony. The hotel has a small network of trails on its own 40 hectares (100 acres) of land. By the time this book goes to press, they should have a large spa opened in the lush grounds below the hotel.

As you drive along the main road from La Fortuna to Lake Arenal, you'll cross over the dam and make an almost immediate right. The hotel is located about a mile up this road, which is rough gravel in parts.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; midsize pool w/swim-up bar; spa; tour desk; in-room massage; room service (7:30am-9:30pm); laundry service
