The choices listed here are mostly in the "luxury country inn" category, but there are other options in the area. For those who want to save money, here's a tip: Drive south from Manchester Village on Rte. 7A. As you leave town and roll through the flat farmlands, you'll come upon a number of budget choices, including the barn-red North Shire Motel (tel. 888/339-2336 or 802/362-2336), which seems to keep guests happy, and some 1950s-era, family-owned motor court-style motels and cottages scattered along the way. I can't vouch for all of those places, but they are likely acceptable -- as long as you're not expecting luxury, perfection, or valet parking and concierge service. (Think of it as car-camping with a roof over your head, and you'll be all right.) Note that traffic moves pretty fast along 7A; don't let your young kids wander outside these properties unsupervised.
