Arosa, one of the highest of the alpine resorts (1,800m/5,904 ft. above sea level), lies in a sheltered basin above the Schanfigg Valley. The most popular resort in the Grisons after Davos and St. Moritz, it basically consists of one main street (Poststrasse) lined with hotels and shops. Though parts of the village date from the 14th century, the resort has a modern and contemporary look. If St. Moritz is too ultrachic for you, Arosa may be your answer. Visitors and the hotels that house them tend to be low-key and family-oriented, often favoring ski jackets over dinner jackets. Arosa lures the family trade through such attractions as kindergartens for children.
