Frommer's Review
This is one of Assisi's great hidden treasures. Since 1960, the Chiocchetti family has offered refined ristorante service and often-inspired cuisine at trattoria prices, and all just a few steps above the main piazza. The cannelloni all'Assisiana are scrumptious (fresh pasta sheets wrapped around a ragù made with yearling veal, all baked under parmigiana), as is the gnocchi alla Fortezza (homemade gnocchi tossed with a garden of chopped vegetables: tomatoes, mushrooms, zucchini, peas, onions, and more). For a secondo, try the coniglio in salsa di mele (rabbit in a sort of curry of white wine, saffron, and apples). The wine list is short but the selection good; they even have half-bottles of Umbria's top-rank Lungarotti vintages at wine-shop, not restaurant, prices. The entire family works hard in the kitchen and the stone-walled dining room, and if you take a liking to them, you can stay over in their seven simple but pleasant rooms upstairs for 52€ to 65€ ($68-$85).

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
