Buckhead Diner ReviewAs sleek as a Thunderbird convertible, the exterior of this nouvelle diner glitters with neon tubing and chrome, and the posh interior conjures images of the Orient Express. It's almost always crowded, so be prepared to wait at peak times (it's usually worth it -- the place is full of hustle and bustle and lots of fun). Open since 1987, the diner has a full bar, offering excellent bloody marys. Main courses are a mix of Mom's cooking and modern cuisine, some quite heavy on the calories (but who's counting?). Longtime favorites include the veal and wild-mushroom meatloaf with celery mashed potatoes, as well as the ahi tuna burger. The sweet and spicy calamari appetizer is a favorite. If you order nothing else, be sure to get the homemade potato chips slathered with melted Maytag blue cheese -- big enough for the table to share, and I bet you won't be too embarrassed to lick the plate. Dessert must-haves include a to-die-for chocolate chunk crème brûlée. All the breads are baked fresh daily at the Buckhead Bread Company . Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
