Many of us wept tears of joy when chef/owner Michael Tuohy announced that he was opening this restaurant, and wept again when he sold it. But incoming owner/chef Kevin Gillespie has a huge following in Atlanta and does not disappoint. A recent finalist on Top Chef, Gillespie takes advantage of seasonal offerings of local farms when crafting his menu. The interior is warmly decorated, with a stunning copper bar inside the entrance. Entering the dining room, you'll find the wood-fired grill and rotisserie in plain view, providing a dinner theater of sorts for diners whose tables are in the vicinity. Just two complaints: It's noisy, and the hardwood seats are uncomfortable (pillows are available).
The local, sustainable, organic menu changes daily, so no matter how often you dine here, you'll always find something different. Woodfire boasts an impressive wine list, with most selections available by the glass. The desserts are quite elaborate, though you might not have room for them.
