Family-Friendly Hotels

Barton Creek Resort -- In addition to the great recreational activities here (including a basketball court), this resort also has an activity room for ages 6 months to 8 years, open from morning 'til evening. It's $10 per hour to drop your kids off here for a maximum of 4 1/2 hours, with additional fees for longer periods.

Doubletree Guest Suites, Habitat Suites, and Staybridge Suites -- That "suites" is in the name of these properties says it all. These guest quarters all offer spacious, common-sense living quarters, plus the convenience (and economy) of kitchen facilities, so you don't have to eat out all the time.

Four Seasons Austin -- Tell the reservations clerk that you're traveling with kids, and you'll be automatically enrolled in the free amenities program, which offers age-appropriate snacks -- cookies and milk for children 9 and under, popcorn and soda for those older -- along with various toys and games that will be waiting for you when you arrive. And you don't have to travel with all your gear, because the hotel will provide such items as a car seat, stroller, playpen, bedrails, disposable pacifiers, a baby bathtub, shampoo, powder and lotions, bib, bottle warmers, and disposable diapers.

Holiday Inn Austin -- You're near lots of the outdoor play areas at Lady Bird Lake, and kids 17 and under stay free, and kids 11 and under eat free. It's hard to beat that!

Lakeway Resort and Spa -- There's plenty for kids to do here, and this property offers a Family Playdays Package, which includes a $100 credit toward recreational activities (such as boat rentals and tennis), plus a free meal and dessert for children 12 and under, with the purchase of an adult entree. Prices vary depending on the time of year.
