Frommer's Review
This is the most famous interior Mexican restaurant in Austin and perhaps the entire state. It serves classic preparations such as mole poblano and cochinita pibil, which are both prepared beautifully. However, most knowledgeable diners won't find a lot of surprises on the menu; it's mainly just the standards. I suspect that the restaurant is coasting for now. It enjoys a faithful clientele that is locked in. These customers come to dine on dishes that they know, and they come because the dining experience taken as a whole is thoroughly enjoyable. There's something about the oversized rooms, the rich colors of the walls, the dampened background music, and the harmonious lighting that makes for a charming evening. For the pleasure of this experience, though, you pay quite a bit, much more than at other Mexican restaurants. I would say the food is overpriced, but if you're looking for a location for a special evening, you won't go wrong here.
Also expensive, but with a more interesting variety of dishes (such as fruit gazpacho and chilaquiles), is the Sunday brunch.
