Frommer's Review
Though it may be pricey, it's hard to beat this hotel. It's got a great location on Lady Bird Lake, near all the downtown tourist attractions; large, comfortable rooms; an excellent restaurant, TRIO, which is also the toniest roost in town for watching bats stream out of the Congress Avenue Bridge; and the best health club and spa in the downtown area. But it's the service that really sets this hotel apart from all others. You can tell this from a glance at the numerous staff that the hotel keeps at the ready. It's quite easy to get things done here.
The look of the place is part modern, part traditional, and part Texas. Polished sandstone floors, deep easy chairs, a cowhide sofa, and Western art should give you the picture. The guest rooms are plush and conservative with muted colors, light floral patterns, rich woodwork, and house plants. The city views are fine, but the ones of the lake are finer still. The hotel is located on Austin's popular hike-and-bike trail, so you can jog right out the door.
If you're traveling with toddlers, the staff can provide necessary gear like strollers and baby seats. For older kids there are complimentary things such as popcorn and soda or milk and cookies if you notify the hotel when you make your reservations. And in cool weather, when the staff lights fires in the clay chimineas on the patio, it offers kids s'more-making materials.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
