Hyatt Regency Austin Review

Austin's Hyatt Regency may have the best location of any hotel in town. It sits on Lady Bird Lake's south shore (strictly speaking, this is South Austin, but its size and feel are downtown traits). This gives the north-facing rooms lake vistas with the downtown skyline as a backdrop. The most popular of these have balconies. Also, right below the hotel is the dock for boat tours to see the bats (under Congress Ave. bridge) and other Lady Bird Lake excursions. You can rent paddle boats and canoes from this dock, as well, or take advantage of the Hike and Bike Trail. The Hyatt rents bikes to guests who prefer riding to walking. Rooms have a comfortable, modern-functional look and are, for the most part, of average size. Hyatt has just completed installing "Respire Rooms" at this hotel for the benefit of allergy sufferers (Central Texas is the promised land for allergists). These come with beefed up air scrubbers, special coatings on all surfaces, and hypoallergenic everything. And for smokers, the hotel still offers a few rooms, which come with enhanced air-filtering technology.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; bike rental; concierge; club-level rooms; health club; Jacuzzi; outdoor pool; room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
