Frommer's Review
It's not only nostalgia that draws repeat guests to this Austin institution, established in 1938 on what used to be the old San Antonio Highway and in the current owner's family since the 1950s. A convenient (but not quiet) location on trendy South Congress Avenue and reasonable rates help, too. Other assets are a classic kidney-shaped pool, a great neon sign, free HBO, free coffee in the lobby, and El Sol y La Luna, a good Latin restaurant that's popular with Town Lake athletes on weekend mornings. It's also got one of those rarities: real single rooms, so those traveling on their own don't have to pay for a bed they're not sleeping in. All rooms are different and some are more recently renovated than others, so ask to look before settling in.
