Following in the footsteps of the Rothschilds, many wealthy Victorian merchants built mansions in and around Aylesbury, and many of these half-timbered examples of regal domestic architecture still stand. If you aren't busy spending money at the market, you may want to stroll through the town to see the houses and buildings that line the streets. Hickman's Almshouses and the Prebendal Houses are structures that date from the 17th century; you can walk by after enjoying tea at St. Mary's Church, which is just down the road.
