Getting There
By Train -- Bad Aussee sits astride a secondary rail line running between the Austrian junctions of Stainach-Irdning (which services passengers arriving from Graz and Vienna) and Attnang-Puchheim (which services passengers arriving from Salzburg and Linz). The trip from Graz to Stainach-Irdning takes about 2 1/2 hours. At Stainach-Irdning, passengers transfer onto any of a dozen northbound trains for Bad Aussee (trip time: 40 min.).
Passengers starting in Salzburg or Linz can take any of the dozens of daily trains to Attnang-Puchheim and then transfer to a southbound train. This train passes through several resorts in Upper Austria -- most notably Bad Ischl and Bad Goisern -- before reaching Bad Aussee (2 1/2 hr.). By Bus -- Because of its good (albeit complicated) rail connections, most visitors arrive in Bad Aussee by train. The most useful of the handful of bus lines running into Bad Aussee, however, is the one that runs from Styria across the border of Upper Austria into the resort of Bad Ischl several times a day (trip time: 45 min.).
By Car -- Driving from Graz, take Autobahn A9 northwest and continue in the same direction as it becomes Route 113. Follow that highway's extension, which becomes Route 146, and cut west at the junction of Route 145 toward Tauplitz.
