Planning a Trip

Getting There

Bad Hofgastein is a major stop on the main rail lines connecting Munich and Salzburg with Klagenfurt and Venice. Most efficient are the express trains from Salzburg, which depart about once an hour throughout the day (trip time: 1 1/4 hr). Night trains might require a transfer at Schwarzach-St. Veit, 68km (42 miles) south of Salzburg. Dozens of trains traveling from Innsbruck also stop in Schwarzach-St. Veit. Call tel. 05/1717, or visit www.oebb.at for more information.

One daily bus runs in both directions between Salzburg's Mirabellplatz and the railway station in Bad Hofgastein. This bus continues on to Badgastein.

If you're driving, take the A10 south of Salzburg, cut right onto Route 311, and continue west to the junction with Route 167, where you head south to Badgastein.

Visitor Information

The tourist information office in the town center (tel. 06432/3393260) is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm.
