Spielbank im Kurpark (tel. 06172/17010; www.casino-bad-homburg.de; tram: 5), called the "Mother of Monte Carlo," is the spa's major attraction. This casino opened way back in 1841 and helped make Bad Homburg famous. Roulette, blackjack, and baccarat are the games here. Passports are required for entrance (you must be 18 to enter and gamble), and men must wear jackets and ties. Admission is 2.50€; hours are daily 2:30pm to 3am.

The town's favorite beer hall and Weinstube is Zum Wasserweibchen, Am Mühlberg 57 (tel. 06172/29878; www.wasserweibchen.de; bus: 1, 4, or 11). About 1.5km (1 mile) east of the town center in Ober-Erlenbach, you'll find another folkloric place, Gasthaus Rupp, Homburgerstrasse 6 (tel. 06172/42484; bus: 2 or 12), whose home-style cuisine is enhanced by the establishment's homemade apple wine. The Kurhaus also contains a handful of bars, cafes, and shops that usually stay open late.
