In the oldest part of the historic zone, a stone's throw from the cathedral, this gem of a 17th-century palace has been restored with modern comforts but with its Andalusian architectural features intact. The manager says, "We're a dream turned into reality," a bit of an overstatement but not far from the mark considering the massive restoration efforts that went into this place. A decorator with an obvious sense of style and grace was also used. Each room -- most of them doubles -- has a different decor and a unique personality. Regardless of which chamber you're given, great comfort abounds throughout this government-rated four-star hotel. It is housed in three buildings, each harmoniously linked by a courtyard. In Baeza, the palace comes as a surprise in that it has its own outdoor pool and spa facilities, plus a delightful restaurant and bar, serving a first-rate cuisine, with many regional dishes.
