This is the first train stop in canyon country. Bahuichivo is merely the train depot and didn't exist before the railroad's construction. The village of Cerocahui (elevation 1,670m/5,478 ft.) dates from before the Colonial Era. It's home to 600 people and is in a valley about 10km (6 1/4 miles) from the train stop. The road is unpaved, so the trip takes about 30 minutes. The most dramatic part of the train ride is the section between El Fuerte and Bahuichivo.
