The highlight of a visit to this gallery -- especially after you've learned the story of the Eureka Uprising -- is the sight of the original Eureka flag, made from petticoat fabric by the women of the uprising and now enshrined here. This excellent gallery, founded in 1884, is Australia's oldest regional gallery and houses a fine collection of Australian art, including paintings from the Heidelberg School and a stunning collection of 20th-century modernists. It also hosts interesting contemporary exhibitions on popular themes.
