For more than a century, visitors have been coming to Banff to "take to the waters." Unlike the Cave and Basin , the outdoor pool here is large, hygienic, warm (usually 90°F/32°C), and pleasant. It can also be very crowded. Come when it's chilly outside; it's particularly lovely on a winter's evening. A bench runs all around the pool's edge, allowing you to sit comfortably in the soothing waters. And while the pool is updated, the building, built in 1931, is actually a perfectly preserved example of mountain architecture of the era. Inside, though, it's contemporary and where you'll find the Pleaidas Spa (tel. 403/760-2500), complete with steam room, massage, and aromatherapy.
