When to Go

In peak season, hotels charge top rates and restaurants are jammed. Banff and Jasper have two peaks: summer, mid-June to late August, when it rarely climbs above 77°F (25°C), making it ideal for hikers and backpackers; and winter, from December to February, when skiers flock to what is probably the finest skiing terrain in all Canada.

March to May is decidedly off-season: hotels cut rates significantly, and you can choose the best table in any eatery. There's plenty of rain in the warmer months, so don't forget to bring some suitable rainwear.
