Frommer's Review
Located on Tunnel Mountain, 1.6km (1 mile) northeast of Banff, Buffalo Mountain offers a quiet remove from the sometimes frantic action but is very much within striking distance of the town's shopping and dining; the Banff bus stops right at the front door. Adding to the tranquility is the fact that there isn't a hotel, per se, but rather smaller buildings throughout the lodge's lushly treed 3-hectare (8-acre) grounds. Accommodations start with one-bedroom suites with kitchens and go to "premier" rooms, with clawfoot tubs and contemporary detailing with natural materials, like slate. Meanwhile, the main lodge, a massive log cabin, is remarkably tranquil and cozy, with a towering stone fireplace and a restaurant that surveys the treed lands around it. Guest rooms 900 through 1100 are the farthest removed from Tunnel Mountain and, therefore, the most private. They look out onto a peaceful forest. Between the guest accommodations and the lodge itself is Buffalo Mountain's "hot tub" -- more a hot pool, because it accommodates up to 25 people. All guest units have fireplaces (wood is provided), DVD players, high-speed Internet access, balconies or patios, and beds made up with feather duvets.
