Frommer's Review
The Chateau Lake Louise isn't the only historic lodge at the lake. Built in the 1920s, the original Deer Lodge was a teahouse for the early mountaineers who came to the area to hike (the original tearoom is now the Mount Fairview Dining Room and bar, offering Northwest cuisine). Although Lake Louise itself is a 3-minute stroll away, the charming Deer Lodge features a sense of privacy and solitude that the busy Chateau can't offer. Choose from three eras of rooms: small, basic rooms in the original lodge; larger rooms in the newer Tower Wing; and Heritage Rooms, the largest rooms in the newest wing. All are unfussy and comfortable, though it's the handsome common rooms, particularly the bar and the log-and-stone sitting room, that will create memories.
