Frommer's Review
Discreetly elegant and beautifully furnished, this wonderful log hotel with a distinctive red roof began its life in 1942 as a humble ski lodge. Between 1988 and 1993, new owners completely rebuilt the old lodge, transforming it into one of the most luxurious getaways in the Canadian Rockies; in fact, the Post Hotel is one of only a few properties in western Canada that has been admitted into the French network, Relais & Châteaux. The entire lodge is built of traditional log-and-beam construction, preserving the rustic flavor of the old structure and its mountain setting. The public rooms are lovely, from the renowned dining room (preserved intact from the original hotel) to the arched, two-story, wood-paneled library (complete with rolling track ladders and river-stone fireplace). New in 2005 is the full service "Temple Mountain Spa" with eight treatment rooms, his and hers steam rooms and plunge pools, a beautiful lounging area with fireplace, a rundle-stone "water wall," and a new state-of-the-art fitness area.
Accommodations throughout are beautifully furnished with rustic pine pieces and rich upholstery. Most units have stone fireplaces, balconies, and whirlpool tubs. Due to the rambling nature of the property, there are a bewildering 14 different layouts available. Families will like the "N" rooms, as each has a separate bedroom with queen-size bed, a loft with queen-size and twin beds, a fireplace, and balconies. The "F" units are fantastic, featuring a huge tiled bathroom with both shower and Jacuzzi, a separate bedroom, a large balcony, and a sitting area with couch, river-stone fireplace, and daybed. Amenities include a notably attractive glass-encased pool facility. Hospitality and service here are top-notch.
