Best Blues Bar: Ad Here the 13th
Singer Georgia fills to bursting this hole-in-the-wall tavern with her booming “blues mamma” voice. She’s backed by a live band playing Monday to Saturday. There’s only space inside for a handful of aficionados; make sure you’re one of them!

Best Jazz Club: Brown Sugar
After 3 decades, Bangkok’s legendary jazz venue has relocated from Lumphini to Banglumphu. As well as live jazz, the 200-seater space features art exhibitions, film screenings, and more. Arrive at about 11pm for the best jazz bands and atmosphere.

Best Views of Bangkok by Night: Sky Bar at Sirocco
At first glance, the neon-lit round bar seems to be slipping off the edge of the rooftop into the Chao Phraya River, so precarious is its situation. But on a clear night, in your most stylish attire, with martini in hand and someone special on your arm, you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world.

Best Jazz Lounge: Bamboo Bar
An exquisite up-market venue, with marvelous international jazz and blues bands and a play-it-again-Sam ambience. Adjoining the bar is a Cuban cigar store that acts as a smoking lounge.

Puppetry (Yes, Puppetry!): Joe Louis Puppet Theatre
Entrancing nightly performances of the Hindu classic Ramayana here feature beautifully hand-carved puppets.

Thai Boxing: Lumpinee Boxing Stadium
A compelling spectacle, one that’s (arguably) far more athletic and involved than the western version of boxing. This brand new stadium has seating for 5,000, and great sound and lighting systems. There’s also a boxing school, museum, restaurant, and café. Fights are held every Tuesday and Friday at 6pm, and on Saturdays at 2pm. Like many attractions in Thailand, there is one price for Thais and another for foreigners.

Dance Clubs: Lava Club
International backpackers and funky young Thais descend into the inferno of Lava late at night to dance to trance, hip-hop, and R&B.
