The region of Baranja extends beyond Croatia into Serbia and Hungary. On the Croatian side, the land northeast of Osijek and up to Croatia’s eastern border is mostly farm and vineyard country, along with the Kopački Rit wetlands. Until recently, tourists avoided Baranja because of landmine threats, but most hazards have now been cleared, and Baranja is coming into its own as a center for farm stays, wine tours, and sustainable tourism.
