Despite its plain exterior, this 2,700-seat Belle Epoque opera house is opulent inside. One of the world’s grand theaters, it was designed in 1861 to replace an earlier one destroyed by fire. Flames gutted the opera house again in 1994, but it was restored to its 19th-century glory. It’s also a great place to take in opera, dance, or a concert. The Liceu also offers guided tours of the public areas, and a limited number of guided tours of the stage and service areas.
