The Jazz aims to be both clubby and chic. Located off Plaça de Catalunya near the contemporary art museum and the downtown campus of the University of Barcelona, it’s true to its name, evoking the Rat Pack era (for some reason, a Spanish fascination) without replicating it. The new renditions of retro design are timeless. This is an unusually family-friendly design hotel, even providing complimentary cradles for infants. In an odd nod to an old-fashioned amenity from the 1950s, the rooms offer piped-in music—a feature that can be easily turned off.
