Review of Museum für Gegenwartskunst (Museum for Contemporary Art)This is one of Europe's leading museums, highlighting artists from the 1960s to the present, with works by Bruce Nauman, Richard Long, Jonathan Borofsky, Joseph Beuys, Frank Stella, and Donald Judd. Opened in 1980, this was the first museum in Europe dedicated exclusively to contemporary art. A 19th-century paper factory was converted to showcase the collection. Of course, the museum can display only a small part of its collection, and individual paintings and sculpture are forever changing. Guided tours can be arranged. As a living museum in an ever-changing art world, the museum stays abreast of modern trends, adding to its vast collection whenever possible. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
