Frommer's Review
Clandestine lovers, honeymooners, and those passionate about nature view this as their secret hideaway in Guadeloupe. In a secluded location in the midst of a former banana plantation, it overlooks the Les Saintes archipelago. The nearest beach, La Plage de Trois Rivières, lies a 15-minute drive away. Wander in a secret garden of banana trees, birds of paradise flowers, rare orchids, hibiscus (the favorite food of iguanas), and flowering tropical foliage. Those who appreciate a place that looks like an outpost of French Guinea will gravitate to the main house of the inn, which was constructed in 1927 and contains a smattering of family antiques. Day trips can be made to Iles de Saintes, or to the nearby national park of Guadeloupe. You can also stay on-site, lounging at the swimming pool built into a cliff. Each of the bedrooms is comfortably and tastefully furnished, with bathrooms tiled in white. Some bathtubs open onto scenic views. The French Creole meals are often made with produce from the hotel's own gardens and are worth a detour.
