This is a classic old Southern beauty, an all-white clapboard Federal-style mansion built around 1790 and now a wonderful B&B. Built by the Cuthbert family, successful indigo and cotton planters, General Sherman actually stayed here after capturing the city in the Civil War. Rooms are faithfully decked out in period style, some with four-posters, working gas fireplaces, and soaking claw foot tubs or whirlpool tubs. Rates include a sumptuous Southern-style breakfast, plus complimentary sunset hors d’oeuvres and refreshments on the veranda.
