Frommer's Review
Named by its movie-loving founders after the Hollywood classic, this hip and popular restaurant is filled with posters of Hepburn and Bogie and has a jungle-inspired decor. Much influenced by the United States, it has welcomed stars like Jack Nicholson, Raymond Burr, Robert Wagner, and Diana Ross during the Cannes Film Festival. Menu specialties are a dégustation de bouillabaisse (only as a special order placed in advance), African curry of lamb or beef and served like a rijsttafel with about a dozen condiments, or any of an array of steaks, fish, or shellfish. Less expensive are the seven or eight kinds of pizza, which even visiting Italians claim are very good. The bouillabaisse is vastly more expensive (70€/$91 per person) than the other main courses. No one will mind if you stop in for only a strawberry daiquiri or piña colada. The check is presented in a videocassette case labeled -- what else? -- The African Queen.
