Green T. House (Zi Yun Xuan) ReviewIt strikes us as a little too precious, but this restaurant was groundbreaking when it opened in the late 1990s for bringing unique design to Beijing's restaurant scene -- the problem is nowadays, ultradesigned restaurants are a dime a dozen in Beijing, making this place seem a little outdated. Large oversized chairs, tree branches, and bird cages decorate the airy dining room. If it's too much for you, try Bellagio, right next door. The restaurant's name changes from purple to green in translation, and dining at Green T. is a similarly psychedelic experience. The imaginatively prepared food is light, with tea-infused flavors, but the cuisine is beside the point. The minimalist decor and attentive service attract a fashion-conscious crowd. A branch of the restaurant, called Green T. House Living, opened in the outskirts of Beijing, but isn't really worthwhile unless you think an extra dose of pretentiousness is worth the 45-minute drive. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
