For good handcrafted ales and pub food, the Bend Brewing Co., 1019 NW Brooks St. (tel. 541/383-1599; www.bendbrewingco.com), is a good alternative to the Deschutes Brewery & Public House, as is Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave. (tel. 541/388-8331; www.silvermoonbrewing.com). In downtown Bend, you'll also find McMenamins Old St. Francis School Hotel, 700 NW Bond St. (tel. 541/330-5174; www.mcmenamins.com), which is home to a pub, several small bars, and a movie theater where you can get McMenamins beers. At Bendistillery, 850 NW Brooks St. (tel. 541/388-6868; www.bendistillery.com), you can get a martini made with this microdistillery's own gin or vodka. The gin is made with local juniper berries, and there is a delicious hazelnut-espresso vodka. Hip and retro, the Astro Lounge, 147 NW Minnesota Ave. (tel. 541/388-0116; www.astroloungebend.com), is Bend's most popular singles bar.

The Les Schwab Amphitheater, 520 SW Powerhouse Dr. (tel. 541/322-9383; www.bendconcerts.com), in the Old Mill District, books all kinds of great music each summer. The band shell and big, grassy field have seen the likes of Bob Dylan, James Brown, and Lyle Lovett.
