Frommer's Review
Famed golf architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., designed this government-owned and -operated course, which lies along the ocean. Jack Nicklaus might be found at the famous 16th hole, a favorite for photo layouts in golf magazines. The 15th and 16th holes ring the craggy cliffs around Whale Bay; sometimes winds from the Atlantic taunt the golf balls hit from these tees. The 7th and 8th holes are a dogleg par-5 and a windy par-3, respectively.
Port Royal is so popular that some avid golfers reserve starting times a year in advance. Greens fees for 18 holes are $140 (£73) (which includes cart). There are no caddies. A full set of clubs rents for $30 (£16), and handcarts rent for $10 (£5.20). The clubhouse, which overlooks the ocean and the 9th and 18th greens, contains a bar and a restaurant, Greg's Steakhouse, which serves lunch and dinner.
