Rosedon Hotel ReviewIf you'd prefer a small local hotel with charm and character in the City of Hamilton, Rosedon is for you. The staff at this stately 1906 mansion are polite and personable. Although its rates are rather high for what it is -- basically, an overblown guesthouse -- it has its fans. Business travelers often stay here because of its proximity to the City of Hamilton. Once occupied by an English family, this was the first house in Bermuda with gaslights. The main house, with the exception of a half-dozen upstairs bedrooms, is mostly used as a reception area and office. Most of the accommodations lie within a rambling two-story contemporary-looking annex that encircles a garden, a flagstone terrace, and a temperature-controlled swimming pool in back. Regardless of their location, mid-sized bedrooms are each individually decorated. Each was recently renovated and has a private balcony or patio, along with a small but neat bathroom. The modern, pool-fronting accommodations in the rear are often preferred over rooms in the main house. The colonial-style bedrooms in the main house, however, have more island flavor and character. The honor system prevails at the self-service bar. A tasty, full breakfast, included in the rates, is plentiful. It can also be delivered to your room. There's afternoon tea, but no restaurant. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
